Regular Gentle Vacuuming -

Regular and gentle vacuuming is crucial for maintaining the health and appearance for your rug care. Before treating any stains, it’s important to give the rug a quick vacuum to remove loose dirt and particles. New rugs, especially woolen ones, often shed fluff due to loose fibers left over from the manufacturing process—this is normal and will reduce over time with consistent vacuuming. However, over-vacuuming can damage wool fibers and increase shedding, so it’s best to vacuum using a “V” motion, repeating this action three times to avoid crushing the fibers. Use a vacuum cleaner with suction-only settings and avoid stiff bristles or high-powered suction, as these can harm the rug’s pile. Upright or canister vacuums with a rotating beater bar or brush are ideal, and make sure to empty the dust bag when it’s half full to maintain effective suction. Vacuuming not only removes dirt but can also help eliminate odors trapped in the rug. Based on how much foot traffic the rug gets, adjust your vacuuming schedule: vacuum daily in high-traffic areas, two to three times a week in medium-traffic zones, and once a week in low-traffic areas. This routine helps prevent shedding, pilling, and odor buildup, keeping your rug fresh and long-lasting.

Clean Spills & Spots Immediately –

To prevent long-term stains on your rug, it’s important to clean any spills or marks as soon as they happen. Prompt action helps maintain the rug’s appearance and prevents stains from becoming permanent. If not treated immediately, even professional cleaners may struggle to remove them. Always blot spills with a clean white cloth or paper towel instead of rubbing, which can make things worse. Many stains can be treated with a simple mix of water and vinegar, or with mild detergent and lukewarm water. Avoid using soaps or harsh cleaning products, as they can damage or fade the rug. For stubborn stains like paint, nail polish, or shoe polish, it’s best to seek professional help. Rugs should never be machine washed.

For handspun wool rugs, remove any solid particles gently using a rounded spoon or a flat spatula. Blot the stain carefully with a clean white towel, pressing lightly and working from the outside toward the center to avoid spreading. Once dry, vacuum the area. If the stain remains, test a small area with a mild detergent and gently rub until the stain lifts. Rinse thoroughly and let the rug air dry.

To remove coffee or tea stains, blot the excess liquid using paper towels or a clean rag, then use a dish soap and water solution to gently clean the area. Dry it by dabbing. For red wine stains, blot the liquid first, then treat the area with a mixture of dish soap, white vinegar, and water. Apply the solution and continue blotting until the stain is gone.

Avoid Direct Sunlight For Rug Care –

Placing Rugs In Direct And Continuous Sunlight (Or To Any Other Intense Light Such As Halogen Bulbs) Will Cause Them To Fade. It Is Best To Avoid Placing A Rug In Direct Sunlight (Or High Intense Light) If Possible. Fading Will Happen Slowly Over Time, And This Bleaching Effect Will Permanently Damage Your Rug. It Occurs More Obviously With Darker Colored Rugs And Natural Fibers. Also Some Colors May Transfer On Light Colored Surfaces.

Most Modern Windows Are Low-E And Mostly Eliminate This Problem. Older Windows May Be Coated With UV Blocking Film Or Curtains/Blinds/Screens To Minimize This Problem.
